Car Bomb around Larnaka Port!

On Friday night in a location near to the Larnaka port a Car explosion took place.

We understand from the Police, a home-made type explosive device was placed under a pick-up truck that was parked outside a nightclub, near the port.

A Larnaka spokesman for the Police Christos Andreou said that the car, which actually belonged to an official of a semi-governmental organisation received extensive damage.

The scene of the incident was sealed off by the Police to determine what kind of explosive device was used.

The owner of the car it is understood advised the Police that he did not suspect anyone specifically and has no particular differences of note with anyone.

Decision from Add hoc committee expected 15th of February 09

It seems that the Larnaka Port and Marina tender process has yet to face more twists and turns in what appears to be a never ending series of delays.

Since the last update the Review Board concluded that the complaint from the Vouros Investment Group concerning aspects of the financial package had merit. Subsequently they instructed the principle Tender Board to arrange a specialised re-evaluatiuon of the second element of the financial part of the tender, which was effectively the swing 5%, which awarded the Zenon Group as the winning Bidder.

The main elements of the original tender were..

  • Concept (incl. design)
  • Financial
  • Marine
  • Legal

It is only the financial aspect now in question and following the recommendations of the Review Board an Add Hoc committee will be set up with the appropriate balanced expert optinion to review the previously mentioned financial portion of the tender.

A decision is expected from the Add Hoc committee, which will be submitted to the Tender Board on the 15th of February 09.

Bouygues International President visits Cyprus

It has come to our attention that the President of Bouygues International, member of the Zenon Group visited Cyprus recently. We understand that he arrived by Private Jet and actually christened the new Larnaka Airport (still under construction by Bouygues International and due for delivery in November 2009).

It appears that his presence was to make a site inspection of the Larnaka airport and attend a meeting with President Christofias of the Republic of Cyprus, the agenda for which few people know for sure.

With construction of the new international airport of Larnaka finishing in Novermber 2009, it would be an ideal scenario for Bouygues International and the Zenon Group as a whole to move the construction site to the port.

Meanwhile the tender process drags on, as we wait for an outcome. Regardless of who wins Larnaka and Cyprus need a quality Cruise port to develop this fast growing sector of the Tourism Industry.
